Cayenne pepper is a type of Capsicum annuum. It is usually a moderately hot chili pepper used to flavor dishes. Cayenne peppers are a group of tapering, 10 to 25 cm long, generally skinny, mostly red-colored chili peppers, often with a curved tip and somewhat rippled skin, which hang from the bush as opposed to growing upright like bell peppers. Most cultivars of cayenne, however, are not extremely hot. Cayenne is used in cooking spicy dishes, as a powder or in its whole form. It is also used as an herbal supplement, and was mentioned by Hippocrates for its medicinal properties. Other uses include pain relief from arthritis or muscle aches.

Cayenne peppers are grown in moist, well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0 to 7.0 and full sun. They require about 75 to 100 days to mature. The peppers can be harvested by hand or with a machine.

Cayenne pepper is used fresh, dried, powdered, or as an extract. It is a component of many dishes, sauces, and seasonings. Cayenne pepper is also used in medicine as a topical cream or ointment to relieve pain from arthritis, shingles, and muscle aches. It is also used in animal feed as a supplement for horses, pigs, and chickens.

Cayenne peppers are rich in vitamins A and C, carotenoids, flavonoids, B vitamins, and minerals. They also contain capsaicin, a substance that has been shown to have analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Enjoy bulk cayenne pepper at wholesale pricing.
