APPLE CRUNCH PUDDING

Ingredients

  • 6 slices white bread or challah

  • 1 cup milk

  • 3 tablespoons butter

  • 3 eggs

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 cup peeled, diced apples

  • ⅔ cup seedless raisins

  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg

  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • ⅔ cup brown sugar, firmly packed

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.

  2. Toast bread lightly and cut into ½-inch cubes. Place in a buttered 6-cup baking dish.

  3. In a 2-quart saucepan, heat milk slowly with butter until the butter melts. Pour over bread cubes and let stand for 30 minutes.

  4. Beat eggs in a large bowl; stir in sugar, apples, raisins, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt. Fold into bread mixture.

  5. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly on top.

  6. Bake for 45 minutes or until apples are tender and custard is set.

  7. Spoon into dessert dishes and serve warm with cream or ice cream.
