GINGERBREAD BOYS

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour

  • 1 ½ tsp baking soda

  • 2 to 3 tsp ground ginger

  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp ground cloves

  • ½ tsp salt

  • 1 cup solid shortening

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 cup light molasses

  • 2 tbsp white vinegar

  • Red cinnamon candies

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt. Set aside.

  2. In a mixer, cream shortening and sugar until creamy. Beat in egg, molasses, and vinegar.

  3. Stir in flour mixture one-quarter at a time, mixing well after each addition. Use hands to mix if necessary.

  4. Cover dough and chill for 3 hours or longer.

  5. Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease cookie sheets.
